Women’s Health – Frequently Asked Questions?

  • What do women's health services include?

Women's health services include a wide range of specialities and focus areas with regards to the female body. These are gynaecology, birth control, ovarian, breast, and other female cancers, heart disease, STI's, and more. Women's health services also include all regular GP and doctor services such as annual check-ups, infection management, blood testing, etc.

  • What is the difference between a women's health doctor and a men's health doctor?

A women's health doctor and men's health doctor will have the same training and qualifications, while a women's health GP will mainly focus on women's health issues and treating women. While some of the areas concerned may overlap with men's health, illnesses and diseased affect men and women's bodies in certain ways and a women's health doctor will have particular knowledge and experience in the areas.

  • Why is women's health important?

Women's health is important as there are many health issues and complications that affect only women that need to be addressed such as reproductive health. Additionally, illnesses such as heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and more, affect women's bodies differently to men's and our knowledge base on this is not as vast as it should be. Women's health is important if we are to improve how women receive medical care and treatments.
